In last Friday's aftermath of one of the most stressful and crappy days in my professional career to date, (will explain when it's safe to talk about the enemy), I decided to come home, turn off my phone, put on a little bit of "Burn One Down" by Ben Harper and color-coordinate my bookshelf. [Yes. Sometimes I'm a little bit crazy. Hence the whole label reserved for this.] There's nothing that says calm like a little bit of order and semblance to my life when other parts seem to be falling apart.
And there's something about these lyrics that have always spoken volumes to me. Since I was a 19-year-old college freshman, unsure about my path in life and how people view me, till now—a 26-year-old, sometimes still unsure about my path in life and how people view me:
"My choice is what I choose to do;If only I had something I could turn into a rainbow every time there was a bad moment...life would be a little bit easier. And brighter.
And if I'm causin' no harm,
It shouldn't bother you.
Your choice is who you choose to be;
And if you're causin' no harm,
Then you're alright with me."

One of The Wives is picking up a new bookshelf for our apartment. I'm stoked.
Bookshelves are the best. Sarah just added another in our apartment, so it's starting to resemble a library.
You should color-coordinate yours...
It's the popular thing to do.
Do you find it creepy that in the photo Sam's "lime green but he thinks it's white" wall paint shows through behind the bookshelf, but not above it?
I kept thinking they were smudges on my camera lens, until I got to work and noticed the smudges were still visible. Then I realized it was the really pretty spotted touch-up Sam did all over our apartment. Good lord.
I'm getting two new bookshelves on Saturday and I have two new roommates with boxes full of new books I have yet to read. Your picture is making me v. excited to organize -- and I'm sooo not an organizer!
Do you anticipate anything else lately besides BD? The shelf looks really nice.--Jenny
I believe I've only put Mike in my last two "Currently Anticipating" and the other ones lately have been, "Getting out of this company!," "The interview I have with a rad ad agency on Thursday," "Seeing what this volunteer copywriting thing is all about tonight, "Getting this contract crap figured out at work—and hopefully a raise?!" "Using my new $7 weights in exercise class today at work," ETC. ETC. ETC.
I don't believe I've been obsessive over it. But, I think you might be able to better understand how I feel if Shannon went away for two months and the two of you never got to talk... you'd be anticipating seeing her too.
